Son of Bulah Clark and Elidia Allen. His parents were betrothed in October 1793, and he was born the next May - his father died 2 weeks after their betrothal. They were never married. He came to Salem from Washington county (he and his wife Sarah Ann Hayden were married in 1830 in Potosi.) Originally he lived in the Boston area, and sailed to New Orleans to start a new life. Things didn't work out well, so he traveled up the Mississippi looking for a good place to settle. One of the original settlers of Dent county, he was variously a road planner and justice of the peace, as well as being a farmer. He had eight children; his daughters Mary Jane Estes (and her son Benjamin Estes) and Martha Ann Gill are buried with him and his wife Sarah.
