Married Samuel Barsby Scoffield, 23 May 1935, Bountiful, Davis, Utah
-------
Salt Lake Tribune, The (UT), Date: April 28, 1998. LAYTON--Ethel Sarah Adams Scoffield finally answered her dear Sam's call and joined him in Heavenly Father's spirit world, Friday morning, April 24. She was welcomed by her parents Joshua Issac and Elizabeth Evans Adams as well as her eight brothers and sisters. Ethel was born October 30, 1911 in Layton where she grew to enjoy all the benefits of a large family and farm including racing horses in the fields and being called "Jim." She graduated from Davis High School, received an Associates degree from Utah State University where she played championship basketball and baseball, and commenced teaching school in the Davis School District at Layton Elementary--instructing hundreds of children in her 32 year career. In 1961, after years of night school and correspondence classes, she received her Bachelor of Science degree at Utah State University. She married Samuel Barsby Scoffield May 23, 1935 and their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple June 11, 1965. Her greatest legacy is children--the ones she taught and the three she raised: Captain Gary Adams Scoffield, USN (ret.) (Easton, Maryland), Shauna Scoffield Hansen, (Layton, Utah) and Susan Scoffield Stayner (Farmington, Utah). She loved and cherished them and their chosen companions Kay Glover Scoffield, Mark McLennan Hansen, and David Burns Stayner.

Her greatest joy is her grandchildren: Kurt Hansen (Vicky), Shauna Scoffield Hansen (Leonard), Jan Scoffield Smith (George), Suzette Scoffield Grant (Steve), Julianne Hansen Weaver, Matthew David Stayner (Kay), Megan Stayner Bunch (John), Kallie Scoffield, Sarah Hansen Lynch (Chris), Liz Stayner, Katie Stayner Creer (Josh), Samuel Mark Hansen (Liz), Gary Sam Scoffield, Annette Stayner Knight (Andy), Rachel Stayner, Jocelyn Stayner...and her great-grandchildren: Jenny Boster Paige (Dan), Elder Chad Hansen (Paraguay Mission), Heidi Hansen, Garrett Hansen, Blake Hansen, Lauren Hansen, Lauren Grant, Natalie Grant, Scott Adam Smith, Lyndsey Weaver, Bailey Sarah Bunch, and Mark McQuarrie Hansen...and one great-great-granddaughter: Kylie Ann Paige.

Ethel loved and appreciated her surviving sister, Afton Adams Ellison and husband Don (Boise, Idaho); her only remaining sister-in-law, Francis Adams (Layton); her only remaining brother-in-law, Lee Bennett (Farmington); and her many nieces and nephews. Ethel exhibited grace, determination, and hard work throughout her life. She was a dignified, professional, and particular woman who left each place she visited better than she found it more tidy and in harmony. The family extends special appreciation to the wonderful staff, physical therapists, nurses, and caregivers at the Heritage Park Care Center, Roy, Utah, for their kind and loving care of their mother in the last three months, and to Dr. Gary Lee for his special attention and concern. We will miss our Mother, (Grammy) "Granny Grunch," and Aunt Ethel, but we know that Sam is very happy to have her at his side again. On Thursday night from 6-8 p.m. there will be a viewing at the Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. The funeral service will be: Friday, May 1, at 2 p.m. with a prior viewing from 12:45-1:45 p.m. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to: In Memory of Ethel A. Scoffield--Metabolic Program at the University of Utah Health Science Center, Division of Medical Genetics, Salt Lake City, Utah 84132.
