Dorothy left us peacefully on January 6th, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Wakefield, KS, to join her husband Orland of 62 years, her daughter Cheryl, her parents, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Monday, January 13th, 2014 at the Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Funeral Chapel at 805 Caroline Ave. in Junction City, KS.

Graveside Services will be held to celebrate Dorothy's life at 10 am on Tuesday, January 14th, 2014 at Prairiedale Cemetery in Talmage, KS.

Dorothy was born on October 30th, 1929 in Abilene, KS, to William Everett and Dora Mary Schroeder Birdwell. She grew up in Abilene where she attended and graduated high school.

On June 18th, 1949 she married Orland Arlie Stewart in Abilene where they lived for a year, then moved to Longford for twenty years before settling in Wakefield.

Dorothy worked at the Fort Riley Post Exchange, then later worked at Finance and Accounting, where she retired in 1992.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Orland, daughter Cheryl, both parents, and her brother William.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory a daughter, Theresa Stewart Thompson and husband Bobby of Coldspring, TX; a grandson, Keno Wallace and Shannon of Salina, KS; two great-granddaughters, Kailee and Tabitha Wallace of Milford, KS; two great-grandsons, Jace Wallace and Tyler Heard of Salina, KS; a sister, Rose Ann O'Dell of Missouri; and a brother, James Birdwell of Wichita, KS.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to encourage loved ones to leave a donation in Dorothy's memory to the Golden Living Center in Wakefield, or to the Wakefield Historical Museum.
