Ada M. Real, age 86, peacefully went to her heavenly home January 7, 2014. She was born in Council Bluffs on September 4, 1927 to the late Roy M and Jessie Marie (Penney) Wright. Ada married Chester Eugene Real and together they raised four children in Council Bluffs and rural Underwood Iowa.

Besides raising her children Ada was employed outside her home. She worked at a corner grocery where her butchering skills carried over to farm life and her Italian sausage making skill was unbeatable. When driving the Underwood School bus she befriended children and parents alike and it is not uncommon for someone to stop her and talk to her about knowing her when… Various positions through West Central Development allowed Ada to develop many skills and make many friends, some that have lasted a lifetime. Although not a skill 20 years as a cancer survivor is one success she is proud of.

From early adulthood Ada served her church, teaching Sunday school and giving the children sermons were two of her favorite duties but she also enjoyed ladies circle and working with the council. She also volunteered with the American Red Cross, Hospice, Share, Mercy Hospital, and Habitat for Humanity, Mohm's, and was a mentor at Roosevelt School. Because of her volunteer service Ada received the Daily Points of Lights Award, Iowa Volunteer Hall of Fame Award, RSVP Service Award and was recognized by the Mayor of Council Bluffs, Governor of Iowa, and President of the United States.

Ada was a great cook and lived in her home and still prepared her own meals. Besides cooking a long time hobby of hers and Gene's was bell collecting. Tiny thimble size bells to brass church size bells and 100's of bells in between filled Ada's house and heart. Now you know why Ada was often called a "little dingy by her children."

In addition to her parents Ada was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Jessie Lary; sons, Kevin Real and Robin Real; sisters, Kathryn Jane Nelson and Maxine Wright; brother, William Wright; grandchildren, Matthew McClain, Christopher McClain, Robyn (McClain) Belt.

Ada is survived by her daughters, Hope McClain and Dawn Hough (Gary); brothers, Rudy Wright (Laura) and Charles Donald Wright; son-in-law, Richard Lary; daughter-in-law, Becky Real; Grandchildren, David Lary, Patrick (Sherri) Lary, Paula (James) Monarch, Danny (Christina) McClain, William (Sundi) McClain, Scott McClain, Philip Hough, Kevin Hough, Ian Hough, Michael Hough, Jennifer Real, Stephani (Michael) Dayton, Nikki Real. 18 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren (including four five generation families) and a host of other family and friends.

Visitation is Friday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Funeral service is Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church Boomer Township. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
