Made a trip to San Francisco, CA 1848 - 1859. He crossed the Isthmus of Panama on mule back then caught a freighter up the coast to San Francisco. He had a lumber yard that supplied the mining industry during the gold rush. In 1856 he was member of the Committee of Vigilance of San Francisco, 1st troop dragoons- company A. In 1859 he returned to Maine where he lived out his life. He married in 1862 and lived @ 21 Winter Street, Waterville, ME. He died of tubercle of the lungs in 1884.
