George Washington York is the son of William Enoch York and Nancy Phillips York of Ider and Valley Head, Alabama Dekalb County. George grew up on Sand Mountain and went to schools at Ider. He married Miss Ida M. Stallings on 11 October 1888 Dekalb County, Alabama. Ida is the daughter of William J. W. Stallings and Susan Isabell Harmon-Stallings of Ider. Her parents ran the post office at Ider. George and Ida had twelve children that I know of. Ocsar E. York (1890-1922), Mrs. R. H. Morgan of Ider, William Enoch York (1891-1918), Henry Grady York (1899-1969), Nancy York married John S. Veal (1885-1931), Bessie Mae York (May 1894-) married George B. Davis on 11 June 1923 Dekalb County, Alabama; Alma York(1893-1921) married Mr. Elrod, Jessie Leona York married Hosey Pinkney Wilkerson, Mose York, Ellen York, and Thomas York. George Washington York and his family are loved and missed. They will not be forgotten.
