He was born January 27, 1900 on the same farm where he resided at the time of his death. He was the son of the late John E. and Lavada Dell Harpham Libey.
Mr. Libey was educated in the Steuben County schools graduating from Angola High School. He later completed teacher's training in vocational agriculture at Purdue University graduating in 1922. He taught three years in the Philippine Islands, two years at Garrett, IN public schools, one year at Scott Center, and 18 years at Ashley, IN public schools at two intervals.
Mr. Libey had been actively engaged in Future Farmers of America and 4-H activities in the Ashley area. He maintained a camp in Canada. Each year several groups of FFA and 4-H boys under his supervision completed projects to finance trips to the camp.
Mr. Libey served as Steuben County Clerk 1940-1948. He was united in marriage to Louise Davis June 27, 1923 in Lafayette, IN. To this union were born six children: Mrs. David (Jane Ann) Holbrook of Wilmington, Massachusetts, John Libey of Monterey, California, Mrs. Ronald (Mary) Hutchins of Rt. 2 Angola, IN, Mrs. Ernest (Lurinda) Steinhilber of Valparaiso, IN, Mrs. Jack (Sarah) Miller of Ft. Wayne, IN, and George Libey a student at Purdue University.
Also surviving besides the wife and children are a stepmother, Mrs. John E. (Maude) Libey of Hudson, IN, two half brothers, Robert Libey of Cleveland, OH and Weir Libey of Wheaton, IL and 14 grandchildren.
