William E. Belch
HAMPTON - William E. Belch, 87, a born again Christian, devoted husband and loving father, departed this earth on January 5, 2014, to walk the streets of gold with his loving wife of 63 years, Hazel. He was born November 4, 1926 to William and Victoria Belch in Hertford, NC. Bill lived in Hertford for 32 years, and married in January of 1945. Bill spent 10 months in Italy with the 350th Infantry 88th Div. during WWII and was honorably discharged on October 15, 1946. In April 1958, Bill, Hazel and their three children moved to Poquoson, Virginia and lived for 48 years. Bill worked for E. W. Muller Construction Company from 1958 until he retired in 1999. He loved to garden, fish and raise roses, but his greatest pleasure was attending Abundant Life Tabernacle with his children. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Henry Belch, Cornelia B. Byrum, James Belch, and Frances B. Briggs; and wife, Hazel G. Belch. He is survived by his sister, Alma Bundy; children, Penny Elias (Stanley), Stephen Belch (Claire), and Bette Shorter (Johnny); 7 grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and 6 great great-grandchildren; and one great friend of 52 years, John Gravely. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Bill's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, January 9, at Abundant Life Tabernacle, 101 Blackburn Lane, in Hampton. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
