"As a young man Loryen came with his family from Kincorth, Sask. to settle in the Cosy Nook District south of Waseca, Sask. He married Alice Willett whom he met while she was teaching school at Cosy Nook. They were married in Lloydminster on 27 Dec 1940.
Shortly after marriage, Loryen enlisted in the Army and served in the Army Service Corps from 1942-1945. He farmed in the Rereshill District until 1958 and then spent several years managing service stations in Meadow Lake and Saskatoon. Following this he moved to Maidstone in 1967 and spent 7 years as an oil well contractor for Husky Oil and Murphy Oil working north of Maidstone. He later worked for a time at Silver Lake golf course and also assisted local farmers, retiring finally in 1982.
Loryen was a sports enthusiast and like traveling and visiting family and friends. In the 40 years he lived in Maidstone he was particularly active in golf, curling, bowling, and pool. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Senior Citizen's Drop In Center. He attended the Baptist Church."
