After reviewing the picture, I took of her headstone, zooming in it is clear the date is Jan 28, 1898 not Jun 20 1898 as I previously had put in the bio. Changed June 20, 2018 by Victor Earl White. In addition in the 1900 Census John Nicholas is listed as Widowed.
"John Nicholas Allen married Susan Ann Adcock 3 August 1859 in Tennessee. She was born 13 Dec 1836 and died 28 Jan 1898. I have enclosed the picture I took of her grave stone in 2000 when I visited their grave site. It may well be gone by now."
