From the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Tuesday, January 16, 1968, p. 2A:

Miss Irma Alice Poindexter, 86, of 2419 Wabash, who long was active in Fort Worth music activities, died this morning in a hospital.

Miss Poindexter, a native of Rockdale who had lived in Fort Worth most of her life, taught music in the Fort Worth public schools. After her retirement in 1944, she taught music at Texas Wesleyan College a number of years.

She has been credited as a leader in obtaining music accreditation for the Fort Worth high schools, and she organized the first high school orchestra here.

She received her degree in music from Bush Conservatory of Music in Chicago and attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.

Miss Poindexter was a charter member of the Civic Music Board and was a member of the Woman's Club and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include five nieces, Mrs. Lea Hendricks, Mrs. Tom B. Saunders III, Mrs. Robert Cantrell and Miss Mary Lee Poindexter of Fort Worth and Mrs. Tom Coffey of Shawnee, Okla., and a nephew, David Poindexter of Fort Worth.

Funeral arrangements are being made at Robertson-Mueller-Harper.
