Francis Myron Rogers, 87, died Dec. 24, 2013 at the Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Center in Clackamas, Oregon. He was born July 6, 1926 to Myra Irene Sanders and Isaac Higbee Rogers in Chino Valley, Arizona.
Francis grew up the youngest of 10 children. He had 5 brothers and 4 sisters. He attended schools in Chino Valley, Arizona; Prescott, Arizona; and Mesa, Arizona.
At age 18, he was drafted and joined the U.S. Army. He served during WWII in Germany where he was a rifleman in the 78th Infantry Division. After he was discharged, he was called to be a missionary for the LDS Church. He served in the Texas-Louisiana Mission.
After his mission he attended college at Utah State Agricultural College in Logan, Utah. There he met Darlene Tingey. In 1950 they were married in the Logan, Utah LDS temple. They had six children.
He received his bachelor's degree in Industrial Education and taught school in Salt Lake City, Utah; LaGrande, Oregon; Scappoose, Oregon; Tigard, Oregon; and Woodburn, Oregon.
Camping and fishing were always a love for Francis. He enjoyed the lakes and streams of Oregon and Idaho. Family outings to the mountains always brought him joy.
He and Darlene served a full-time mission to the Philippines, Quezon West Mission in 1989.
He was a member of the LDS church and served faithfully in many callings, including bishop of Tigard ward, temple worker, teacher, home teacher and friend.
He is survived by his wife Darlene, of King City, Oregon, children, Gary Rogers (Becky) of Longwood, Florida, Jean Baird (Adrian) of Rexburg, Idaho, Patricia Garner (Loren) of North Pole, Alaska, William Rogers of Evan, Georgia, Alan Rogers (Nancy) of Troutdale, Oregon, and David Rogers (Marla) of Sandpoint, Idaho, 22 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Leah Rogers of Safford, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, and sisters.
Funeral services were held in the Bull Mountain Ward Chapel, Tigard, Oregon. A viewing was held at the church prior to the services. Burial will be in the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
