Columbia SC - Graveside services for Katherine Jackson Bannister were conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Rosemont Cemetery, Newberry. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society c/o Helen Beebe, 181 Tailors Trail, Leesville, S.C., 29072 or to the Service Class of the First Baptist Church of Columbia, 1306 Hampton St., Columbia, S.C. Ms. Bannister, 78, died Dec. 10, 2004. Born in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Cloyd Hillard and Corrie Porter Jackson. She was retired from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Columbia, where she was a member of the Service Class. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy. Surviving are a son, Steven P. Bannister of Center Point, La.; a sister, Dr. Mozelle V. Jackson of Simpsonville; a brother, Jason Melvin Jackson of Newberry; two grandchildren; Steven Christopher Bannister and Shana Michele Green; a daughter-in-law; Linda C. Bannister; and a number of nieces and nephews.
