Private John Peer fought in the War of 1812 with the 5th Lincoln's, 1st Flank Company.

On 31 January 1850 at Toronto Ontario John Peer submitted a petition for land as a former soldier. Read in council 26 March 1850, council recommended that claim be confirmed and that petitioner be granted Scrip equal to 100 acres.
