Larue Herald News, June 28, 1984:

Rev Isham E. Enlow dies; Family tied to county history.

With the passing of the Rev. Isham Edward Enlow, 93, the link between past and present becomes a reminder Enlow's great-great grandmother, Mary Brooks Enlow was the midwife who delivered Abraham Lincoln.

Mary was the same woman that first married John LaRue, for whom Larue County is named.

The Rev. Enlow, famous in his long career as a minister and evangelist, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, in Ft. Myers, Florida. On Friday the Larue County native made his last trip home, to be laid to rest in Red Hill Cemetery beside his wife, Marzela Phillips, who died in 1982.

Enlow's history began in a log house seven miles east of Hodgenville on the Larue side of Rolling Fork River. He was the third child born to Abraham Enlow and Emma Jane Ferrill Enlow. Both families were Baptists.

The well-known minister first served Mt. Tabor Baptist Church where he was said to receive his calling. When he retired at 92, he had started 28 churches in Florida and Kentucky. He had served at numerous churches and was an active evangelist, both in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky and in Florida. His ministry includes 32 years in Florida.

He was a graduate of Georgetown Baptist College in 1916 and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1919, having first graduated from Woodland Hill School and Hodgenville High School.

Survivors include two sons, Dr, Eugene I. Enlow, pastor of Beechmont Baptist Church in Louisville, Phillip Ferrill Enlow of Virginia Beach, Va.; one daughter, Charlotte McClatskey of Ft. Myers, Florida; one sister, Mrs. Rom Bell of Lexington, Ky.; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
