Cambridge Club - Nov. 1947

Hilbert Francis Day - a distinguished member of the Cambridge Clbu - passed away at his home in Cambridge on May 16, 1947, in his sixty-eighth year.

"Hi" was born in nearby Roxbury on April 17, 1879 and there prepared himself for college entering Yale University and graduating in the Class of 1901 - Sheffield. He was ever afterwards one of Yale's most loyal and affectionate sons. Four years later he received his Medical Degree from Harvard University. Nationally, as well as locally, he achieved a career of notable eminence and distinction in his profession as manifested by his numerous honors and appointments to the staffs of hospitals and faculties of medical schools and colleges.

He was a director of the Cambridge Chapter of the American Red Cross, a director of the Family Welfare Society, a member of the Greater Boston Advisory Board of the Salvation Army, Honorary President of the Cambridge Tuberculosis and Health Assoc., President Emeritus of the Washingtonian Hospital, a member of Massachusetts Society of Mayflower Descendants, and a Life Trustee of the Roxbury Latin School.

His interest in Cambridge was intense. As President of the Cambridge Citizens Committee, he took an active part in the political life of the City and was active in every city Campaign in recent years. He supported the Plan E form of government and made many helpful suggestions, particularly as they related to the City's Health Department and its institutions, the Municipal Hospital, the Tuberculosis Sanitorium, and the Municipal Home for the aged.

For all his varied service to society, for his ability and for all his accomplishments, we, his fellow members of the Cambridge Club, honored and esteemed him. He was loyal, devoted, and energetic to and in behalf of his friends. We who were his friends will long and faithfully cherish his memory.
