LAKE, KYLE June 12, 1972 - October 30, 2005

Kyle Lake, age 33, pastor of University Baptist Church in Waco Texas, died at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center Sunday morning, October 30, 2005.

Services will be held Tuesday, November 1, at 1:30pm at First Baptist Church of Waco with Dr. Burt Burleson officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. A public viewing will be held also from 12:00 - 1:30pm prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Visitation with the family will be held Monday, October 31, 2005 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey funeral home.

Jeffery Kyle Lake was born June 12, 1972 in the East Texas Town of Tyler Texas to David and Shirley Lake. He attended Andy Woods Elementary and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1990 where he was co-captain of the state runner-up Lee Soccer Team. On May 30, 1998, he was united in marriage to Jennifer Gornto, daughter of Rick and Janis Gornto of Clear Lake Texas.

Kyle received his Bachelor's degree in Speech Communications and Religion from Baylor University, Waco, Texas, in 1994. He went on to attend Truett Seminary in Waco, earning his Master of Divinity in the fall/spring of 1997. Kyle began his work at University Baptist Church that same year.

He is the author of two published books, Understanding God's Will: How to Hack the Equation Without Formulas © 2004 Relevant Books), and [re]Understanding Prayer: A Fresh Approach To Conversation With God (© 2005 Relevant Books).

Known best for his infectiously brilliant smile and astonishingly beautiful family, he was equal parts high intellectual and comedic humorist. His light, comic demeanor was unceasingly both charming and disarming.

He closed each service as Pastor of University Baptist Church with the following benediction: "Love God, embrace beauty and live life to the fullest."

He is survived by his wife Jennifer and their three children, twin 3-year-old sons, Jude and Sutton, and 5-year-old daughter Avery; his parents, David and Shirley Lake; his mother and father-in-law, Rick and Janis Gornto; his brother, Jody Lake and wife Stephanie; his brother Jona; his sister Kristi Lake/Fuller and her husband J.D.; Jennifer's older brother Scott Gornto and his wife, Crystal. He is further survived by several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Universtiy Baptist Church at 1701 Dutton Ave, Waco, Texas 76706.
