Joel and his wife Mariam Wilson were married in Jan 21, 1858 in Screven County. They are buried on their old homeplace.

They only had two children, both sons, as far as I can verify, James Samuel and Ichabod Thomas. I think he named his boys after his brothers. That was before the war.During the war, he was captured in Chattanooga and taken to a prison camp in Illinois, the infamous Rock Island. He had to walk home from Illinois and they didn't have any more kids.
