Alva E. Mix was the son of James Henry Mix & Luella Alice Morris. He was born in Crawford Co., IN where he was a barber. After the flood of 1937 he moved his family to New Albany, IN. There he lived at 1807 E. Market St. and worked at the highway department making signs.

He married Mary Catherine Peru on 24 Feb 1914 and had 8 children, Winifred, June, Donella, James Alexander, Elva, Alva Ray, Coen and Gloria.
