Virginia Louise Buchanan, age 101, of Elk Park passed away on December 27, 2013 at Cannon Memorial Hospital.
A native of Avery County, she was born August 17, 1912 a daughter of the late Clayton and Daisy White Winters.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed reading and traveling.
Virginia attended Elk Park Methodist Church and Elk Park Christian Church.
Along with her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her: husband, Lee Roy Buchanan; son, Lee Roy "Junior" Buchanan; daughter, Theresa Buchanan; brothers, Bell, Norman, Mack, Nage, Mack, Noge, Alden and Horton Winters.
Virginia has left to cherish her memory her: children, Charles Buchanan and wife Bonnie of Massillon, OH., Toni Mears of Massillon, OH., Daisy Miller of Elk Park, NC., Norma Ann "Pete" Hughes and husband DJ of Candler, NC., Harold Buchanan and wife Caroline of Charlotte, NC., Jackie Buchanan and wife Sheryl of Charlotte, NC., Kim Allen Buchanan of Washington, DC.; 27 grandchildren; 62 great grandchildren; and 12 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Virginia Louise Buchanan will be conducted on Sunday, December 29th at 2:30 p.m.at the Elk Park Christian Church with Mr. Ryan Shirck and Rev. Reed Callahan officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the services.
