Evans, Ga.– Mrs. Mildred Garrett Lipham, 93, entered into rest on Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at Kentwood Nursing Facility, Augusta, Georgia.
She was born on May 17, 1917, in Roopville, Ga. and lived most of her life in Bowdon, Ga. She held degrees from Tift College and the University of Georgia. Following her graduation from Tift in 1937 she was a high school language teacher in Gilchrist County, Florida and Bowdon, Georgia until 1964 when she began teaching at West Georgia College. She was a lifelong member of the Bowdon Baptist Church.
She was a member of the Blue Stocking Club, the Tift Alumnae Association, Kappa Delta Pi, and Alpha Delta Kappa. She enjoyed art and made a number of drawings and paintings of buildings and landmarks in and around Bowdon, Georgia. She enjoyed sports and was particularly fond of tennis, golf, and swimming.
Survivors include her two children, James Cliff Lipham Jr., of Lake Toxaway, N.C. and Mary Catherine Lipham Handy of Evans, Ga.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Cliff Lipham of Bowdon; her brothers, William Garrett of Bremen, Ga. and Ralph Garrett of Alexandria, Va. and her sister, Bernice Garrett Colson of Trenton, Fla.
A memorial service will be held at Bowdon Baptist Church, Bowdon GA, on Friday January 28, 2011, at 11 a.m.
