Dena Slaughter Gandy, 91, died Thursday, December 26, 2013. Funeral service with Justin and Jordan Gandy officiating will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church with interment following in the Breckenridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6:00-7:30 P.M. Arrangements are under the direction of Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home.

Dena Slaughter Gandy was born on July 27, 1922 in Desdemona, Texas to Garner and Olivia (Jackson) Slaughter. They moved to Breckenridge when she was 9 months old. She graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1940. Dena married Cleve Gandy on September 9, 1944 in Fort Riley, Kansas where they lived until he was discharged from the service. They moved back to Breckenridge in 1952. Cleve died on November 8, 1998. They had been married for 55 years.

She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church where she taught the two-year olds for many years. Dena worked with GAs and was a den mother for Cub Scouts. Also she was a member of the Eastern Star. Dena was a loving mother and was known for taking care of family members and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna and her husband, Mike Rogers of Brady. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Tonya and her husband, Troy Clifton of Round Rock, Amanda and her husband, Anthony Pennington of Round Rock, Justin Gandy and his wife, Christy of Dallas, and Jordan Gandy and his wife, Haley of Waco. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Tyler and Logan Clifton of Round Rock, Luke Pennington of Round Rock, and Zachary Gandy of Dallas as well as loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

Dena was preceded in death by her husband, Cleve, a son, Garland Gandy, her parents, Garner and Olivia Slaughter, her sister, Louise Overby, and her brother, Buddy Slaughter, and his wife, Ann Slaughter.
