Mary Glover Aycoth, 92, of Salisbury, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 15, 2012, following several months of illness.

Born Feb.7, 1920, in Rowan County, Mrs. Aycoth was a loving daughter to Charles Cuthrell Glover and Madie Bruce Glover. She was the last remaining sibling of four brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Aycoth was a lifelong member of Bethel Lutheran Church, where she was a devoted choir member, adult Sunday School teacher and former president of the Lutheran Church Women (LCW) missionary program. She was awarded Life Membership from the Lutheran Theological Seminary Auxiliary due to her many devoted years of volunteer work for the church.

A 1937 graduate of China Grove High School, she was a cheerleader, basketball and baseball player and honor graduate.

She married her late husband, Barney Lee Aycoth, on Aug. 10, 1940. Soon after marriage and in support of the war effort, she traveled with her husband to Baltimore, Md., where she worked as a spot welder and riveter on B-26 and A-22 bomber aircraft at the Glen L. Martin Aircraft Corporation during World War II. After the war, she and her husband returned to Salisbury where she began cosmetology courses. After graduating from the Norfolk School of Beauty Culture and the Lu Carnes School of Beauty, she opened and operated Aycoth Beauty Salon in Salisbury for 25 years. A strong advocate of higher education, she attended Catawba College and the University of Miami in pursuit of her college degree. She was also a licensed N.C. Real Estate Broker.

Her love of history and traveling allowed her to visit historic areas all around the world.

Her many civic duties and volunteer work included membership and past president (1985-86) of the Enon Extension Homemakers Club, member of the Agricultural Extension Services Advisory Board, and served as founder/chorus coordinator of the Extension Homemakers Chorus in Rowan County for 13 years. She devoted numerous volunteer hours for Rowan Helping Ministries, Bloodmobile, Hefner VA Medical Center and the Salisbury "Singing Seniors Chorus."

Mrs. Aycoth was preceded in death by her husband, Barney Lee Aycoth, on June 15, 2003; four brothers, Robert L. Glover, Charles H. Glover, Francis C. Glover and Paul C. Glover; and three sisters, Sadie G. Peeler, Catherine G. Miller and Cleo "Sue" G. Browning.

Visitation and Service: The family will receive friends from 3-4 p.m. Tuesday at Bethel Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. Funeral services will be conducted 4 p.m. Tuesday (April 17) at the church with the Rev. Carroll Robinson, officiating. Interment will follow at Rowan Memorial Park.

Memorials: May be made to Bethel Lutheran Church, 355 E. Ridge Road, Salisbury, NC 28144.

Very special thanks to her wonderful caregivers, the Lutheran Home, Rowan Hospice and Palliative Care and her loving and caring physician, Dr. Donna Childress.
