Joseph Alexander, called Pap by his family, was the son of John Alexander and Mary Elizabeth (Lowrance) Plunk.

Family records say he was a Sargent in the Civil War. Civil war records found online say he was a private.

He married Catherine Case. Their children are Neal B. Cornelius, and Manerva Eudora Plunk.

Neal B. first married Mary Hawkins. After her death, he married Laura (Henry) Smith on May 7, 1884.

Eudora married Michael Johnson on September 24, 1872.

After Catherine died, Pap married Mahalia Agnew. Their children are Marcus Lafayette, Josephene, Henry Clay, Charles C., and O. C. Plunk.
