Transcribed obit from Chris Taylor of Wisconsin; inside personal Bible of her great grandmother, possible acquaintance of Francis A. LeGrand. Chris generously forwarded to me the newspaper obituary of Francis LeGrand (my third great grandfather)
"Francis Asbury Legrand was born in Hardin county, Kentucky, August 28, 1821 and departed this life May 14, 1902. At four years of age he was left an orphan, but his grandparents, who were at that time living in Breckenridge county, Ky, gave him a good home. He was maried (sic) to the companion of his youth, Miss Julia Thurman, July 20, 1843. To this union were born ten children, but only three sons remain to mourn the loss of a good father. In the year 1886 Mr. Legrand moved to Sangamon county, Ill., and five years later to Morgan county, Ill. Still later he removed to this county, where he remained until the Lord called him home. He was converted to God and united with the Methodist Episcopal church at a camp meeting near Maverly, Ill., August 21, 1852; and ever after was true to the faith. Mr Legrand was married the second time to Mrs. Malinda Cain, in July, 1888, who now remains to mourns the loss of a dear and affectionate husband. His three step sons revere and love him as there (sic) own father. The funeral was conducted by his pastor, Rev. Wiley Johnson, at Fletcher chapel, in the presence of a large concourse of people. The text used was from 2d Timothy 4:7. The remains were interred in the cemetery near Fletcher chapel. W. Johnson."
