Lyle B. Nelson, age 91, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at 11:50 pm on December 22, 2013 at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport, Iowa. Lyle was born on August 17, 1922 in Kirkwood, Illinois and is the son of Carl Henry and Gertrude Lydia Matilda Brandt Nelson. Lyle was reared and educated in Kirkwood and attended Kirkwood Schools. Lyle graduated from Kirkwood High School with the class of 1940. Lyle married Myrna Jeane Stice on December 14, 1944 in Monmouth, Illinois and she preceded him in death on March 6, 2012. Lyle began work stringing wire for the REA and wired numerous houses locally. He began farming in March of 1944 and was a grain and livestock farmer locally for many years. He was a member and Deacon of Cameron Christian Church in Cameron and also served on it's building committee. Lyle for a time also served on the Floyd Township board, was a member of the Moose Lodge in Davenport, Iowa, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Myrna and Lyle loved to dance and did so at the Col Ballroom in Davenport, Iowa, Powell Pavilion in Berwick , Illinois and went often to the roof top above the Wineberg Arcade in Galesburg, Illinois.
He is survived by his daughter Marla (John) Johnson of Avon, Illinois and his son Michael (Sheila) Nelson of Viola, Illinois. There are four grandchildren Jon-Mychel (Sarah) Nelson of Geneseo, Illinois, Julia (David) White of Normal, Illinois, Amelia (Justin) Rakestraw of Abingdon, Illinois, and Cassandra (Eric) Weidman of Columbia Heights, Indiana. There are nine great grandchildren. One sister survives, Annabel Diamond of Hollywood, Florida also is surviving. He is preceded in his death by his parents, wife, and one brother, Henry.

Services: A funeral service will be at Cameron Christian Church in Cameron, Illinois on Friday December 27, 2013 at 11:00 am conducted by Pastor Jeff Nielsen. His family plans a visitation with the family receiving friends before the service at the church from 9:00 am to 11:00 am prior to the service. Interment will be in Silent Home Cemetery in Cameron, Illinois. A memorial fund is being established for Cameron Christian Church.
