Catherine Rose DONNELLY

Born July 23, 1929 in Seattle; died December 18, 2013 also in Seattle.

Survived by Dean, her loving husband of 53 years; her son, Kevin; sister, Theresa Hebblethwaite; brother, Dr. John Doherty (Mary); a large extended family; and many friends. Preceded in death by her son, Mark.

Her younger years were spent growing up in a loving Irish family in Seattle and attended St. Mary's Catholic School. She had fond memories of walking down to the Pike Place market with her brothers and sisters to greet her father after he got off work from being a longshoreman. During her early teen years her family moved to their farm in Buckley Washington where she attended Buckley High School and was active in 4H. At 16 she moved to Tacoma where she worked while she sending herself through and graduating from St. Leo's High School where she was valedictorian.

She started college by attending Tacoma Catholic College then transferred to College of Puget Sound (now University of Puget Sound) where she was a member of Lambda Sigma Chi (which became Alpha Phi) sorority, she was voted homecoming princess and earned her BA in field of social work. She then went on to graduate school at University of Washington working on her master's degree in sociology.

Following college she moved to Ephrata becoming a social worker for the State of Washington. In 1955 she returned to Seattle where she joined the Seattle Police Department. While working for SPD she started as a patrol officer focusing on helping children in need, later she added on the role of public relations where she spoke on behalf of the police department to civic groups, and made several appearances on local television shows including JP Patches.

She married her husband Dean in 1960 living in both the Magnolia and Blue Ridge areas of Seattle before moving to their current residence in Lake Forest Park in 1964. She retired from the Seattle Police Department in 1967, to become a mother to her first son Kevin in 1968 and her second son Mark in 1973. She devoted the following years to being an extraordinarily loving giving mother and role model for her 2 boys.

Once her children were grown, she decided to rejoin the work force starting at Cricket Arts and Crafts, and then moving into the Federal Government, where she worked her way up becoming a supervisor at the U.S. department of Immigration.

In 2003 she retired to spend more time at home with her loved ones. Through the years Catherine enjoyed playing the piano, gardening, bargain hunting at the local stores, being with her family, and the yearly St. Patrick's Day get-together with her extended Irish family. She also traveled including a trip to Ireland where she toured the country, visiting family and seeing where her parents grew up.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, January 2nd at 11 AM at St. Mark Catholic Church 18033 15th Pl NE, Shoreline, 98155. Interment, Holyrood Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the special charity of your choice. Hoffner Fisher & Harvey Guestbook at harveyfuneral.com
