Herbert Sharp

Herbert M. Sharp, 48, of 14 Lakeview Drive, died Thursday at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Galveston, the Rev. Grayson Glass officiating.

Mr. Sharp will lie in state at the church Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until the service starts.

Burial will be in Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock under the direction of the J. Levy & Bro. Funeral Home.

Mr. Sharp was born June 14, 1930, in Galveston.

A building contractor, he was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church where, prior to his illness, he was a teacher of the men's Bible Class. He was serving his second term as trustee of the Texas Baptist Encampment and was a member of several civic boards and committees.

Mr. Sharp was a member of the Galveston Board of Realtors and the Galveston Apartment Association. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and served one year overseas in Korea.

Survivors include his wife, Janie Sharp of Galveston; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie W. Sharp of Galveston; his grandfather, G. L. Hill of Galveston; a son, Steven Mark Sharp of Galveston; three daughters, Betsy Anderson of Houston, Nancy Treadaway of La Porte and Linda Sue Sharp of Galveston; two sisters, Joyce Larson of Dickson and Judy Elam of Panama City, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

Friends may call at the funeral home after noon today.

Pallbearers will be John Douglas, Dr. Daiel Markel, Dr. Alan Davenport, Jim Maddox, George Lestos and Bill Witt. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of the First Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to the Activities Building Fund of the First Baptist Church.
