GREENBUSH - Freemont H. Madden, 73, went home to be with his Lord, Jan. 12, 2009, at his residence. He was born Dec. 13, 1935, in Cardville, a son of Alson and Evelyn (Adams) Madden.

Fremont was born in Cardville and attended school in Greenbush. He attended West Enfield Church of God where he became a part of the family of God. He enjoyed the fellowship of the congregation and singing in the presence of his Lord. Fremont, along with his wife, Carla, were recently baptized. Until recently, he worked side-by-side with his brother, Scott. He not only enjoyed his many years of working in the logging industry with his father, brothers, children, grandchildren and nephews, he also had the joy of owning his own trucking and slashing business from 1977 to 2008. He was known by his co-workers in Passadumkeag as "King Slasherman."

Fremont enjoyed socializing with family and friends, especially Sunday morning breakfast. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and watching his children and grandchildren grow up.

He is survived by 11 children, Brenda French of Washburn, Stanley Madden of Greenbush, Brenda and her husband, Mark Savage, of Brewer, Pam and her husband, Kerry Spofford, of Holden, Sally and her husband, Eddie Elwell, of Greenbush, Michael and his wife, Denise Knowles, of Eddington, Gerald and his wife, Debra Knowles, of Connecticut, Jeffrey Madden of Greenbush, Dwayne and his wife, Cindy Madden, of Greenbush, Wanitta Ross of Dedham, and Harold and his wife, Valerie Madden, of Greenbush; 26 grandchildren, Robert French, Jessica Lyons, Nicholas Madden, Angela and Derek Savage, Elissa McCall, Kimberly Spofford, Joey, Jeremy,and Josh LaBelle, Matthew, Meghan, Laura and Richard Knowles, Tyler, Garnett, Jeffrey Jr., Brittany, Logan, Aaron and Anna Madden, Raymond Ross, Jillian and Jacob Madden, and Jacob and Brianna Stoddard; 10 great-grandchildren Keagen French, Elizabeth, Kyle, Joey and Logan LaBelle, William and Molly McCall, Peyton Savage, Tyler Knowles, and Wyatt Madden; eight siblings, Faralyn and her husband, Myron Ogden, of Greenbush, Fernald Madden of Milford, Greta and her husband, Harold Stevens, of Greenbush, Gayland and his wife, Janis Madden, of Greenbush, Beverly and her husband, Roger Lowell, of Kennebunk, Scott and his wife, Karen Madden, of Old Town, Amy and her husband, Barry Malone, of New Hampshire, and Jason Madden of Bangor; many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Keith, Karl and Alson Jr.; sister-in-law, Mrs. Fernald Ernestine Madden.

Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Thursday at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where a celebration of his life will be conducted 6 p.m. with the Rev. Angelia Fowler, pastor of West Enfield Church of God, officiating.

Spring interment will be at Cardville Cemetery.
