Jay Allen McRorey
April 14, 1930 - March 31, 2010

Jay Allen McRorey, 79, of Georgetown, TX, left this world for his heavenly home on March 31, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Jay was born in Dallas, TX on April 14, 1930. He served in the U.S. Army from July 1948 to September 1953, during which time he served as Assistant Chaplain at Ivanhoe Chapel, north of Seoul South Korea, for eighteen months under Chaplain Gillenwater. He was awarded a ribbon with medal for meritorious service.

He married Evelyn Miller on April 7, 1955 at Fernwood Baptist Church in Dallas, TX, and they were married for 35 years. He graduated from Baylor University with a degree in Nursing in May 1957 and was certified as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas on May 30, 1957. He then began working as Inspector of Institutions for the Dallas City Health Department.

While a member of Fernwood Baptist Church in Dallas, he also served as the Church Youth Minister from May 1957 to February 1960 and as the Church Organist until moving to Austin, TX in January 1964 to accept a position with the Texas State Department of Health as Supervising Inspector, Division of Nursing and Convalescent Homes. After moving to Austin, he and his family soon joined Northwest Baptist Church where he again served as the Church Organist until 1980. Jay retired from the Texas State Health Department in 1989 after 25 years of service.

Recently, Jay's youngest granddaughter, Kelly, made a digital scrapbook and on "Papaw's Page" she wrote "This man is incredible. Every memory I have of him is a great one. From what I remember, he was always happy. He is a very artistic man and free-spirited and kind. I'm very blessed to have him as my Papaw, and I wouldn't have it any other way."

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Lee (Mike) and Esther Dolby McRorey, his sister, Clela Ruth McRorey Cheek, his brother-in-law, H.A. Cheek, and his nephews, Byron Cheek and Joey Bowers.

Family members left to cherish Jay's memory are his daughter, Lisa McRorey Zirkle and husband, Don of Florence, TX; his son, Douglas McRorey of Katy, TX; and his grandchildren, Dustin Zirkle, Sara McRorey, Jared Zirkle, Kevin McRorey and Kelly McRorey.

Heartfelt appreciation is extended to Jay's partners in his battle against cancer - Dr. Mika Cline-Burkhardt and the caring staff at Texas Oncology, Seton Williamson and Texas Oncology, Round Rock as well as the heaven-sent Crisis Care Nurses, Kathleen and Christine, of Hospice Austin, Williamson in Georgetown.

A memorial service celebrating Jay's life and faith was held on April 1st at Laurel Land Cemetary in Dallas, TX where Jay is buried along side his family members who also met him at the gates of heaven and welcomed him to the most spectacular Easter music service he could possibly imagine!
