Avis Ruth Ellis, 91, of Eyota, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, at Madonna Towers in Rochester.

Avis was born Dec. 1, 1922, in Chatfield, to Eli and Lottie (Anderson) Asleson. She attended country school. On Oct. 15, 1945, she married Cedric Ellis at the Root Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Fountain. They owned and operated a farm in Eyota Township, where Avis still resided.

She was a longtime member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Eyota. Avis was also a member of the Rural Robins Ladies Club. She enjoyed her flower gardens, the birds, music and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Marla (Gene) Hovde of Woodbury and Maria Mayer of Lancaster, Ohio; granddaughter, Bridget Kruger of Kellogg; and son-in-law, Chuck Kruger of Kellogg.

Avis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cedric; two daughters, Neva Ellis and Nancy Kruger; one grandson, Eric Kruger; and two brothers, Jerry and Laverne Asleson.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, Dec. 21, at 11 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church in Eyota, with the Rev. Mark Woodward officiating. Burial is at Sumner Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Chatfield. Visitation will also be Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
