MILITARY SERVICE: United States Army, enlisted July 21, 1943 at Boston, Mass., discharged April 2, 1946. World War II

Gordon V. Abbott, 80, husband of the late Nancy B. (Bergman) Abbott, died Thursday morning at Beverly Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Nova Scotia, Canada, son of the late Harold V. and Evelyn W. (Lyons) Abbott, he lived in Beverly most of his life.

Mr. Abbott was employed as a quality control inspector for the former EG&G electronics firm in Salem for 25 years and retired in 1987.

He was a United States Army veteran of World War Two participating in the Ardennes campaign, The Battle of the Bulge and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Mr. Abbott was a life long member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Surviving him are one son and daughter in law, Robert G. and Floriana Abbott of Midwest City, Oklahoma; one daughter, Victoria J. Abbott of Beverly; one brother, Clifford Abbott of Spencer, New York; two grandsons, James and Scott Harris of Utah. He was also the father of the late Nancy J. Harris who died in 2001. His wife, Nancy B. (Bergman) Abbott died in 1986.

Funeral services will be held at Second Congregational Church, 35 Conant Street, Beverly, Monday at 10am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Burial will be in North Beverly Cemetery.
