Daniel Charles Zastrow,76, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Wednesday, December 18, 2013. He was born July 17, 1937 in Algoma, to the late Harry (Red) and Leona (Shemenkosky) Zastrow. Dan grew up in Algoma and graduated from Algoma High School, he was involved in football, basketball and baseball. He served in the US Army during peace time for about a year and was honorably discharge. On July 1, 1967 he married Donna M. Seidl at St. Mary Church in Algoma. Dan worked at Algoma Hardwoods for 33 years in the shipping and receiving department. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and playing cards. Dan was tender at heart and his Catholic faith was important to him. Dan was an avid bowler in his younger years; his team won numerous bowling league championships. Fishing was always part of Dan's life; he carried on this tradition with his grandkids. He would take the grandkids to Potawatomi State Park to fish. They would have a family picnic and then the grandkids persuaded grandpa to go for ice cream. Dan enjoyed playing cards including 66 and sheephead being his favorite. Daniel is survived by his wife, Donna; his children, Kathleen (Leonard) Shaw, Algoma and Theresa (Jason) Tlachac, Forestville; grandchildren, Bailey and Madison Tlachac, and Raymond Shaw. Daniel is further survived by his stepmother Kathryn Zastrow, Algoma; four sisters, Dr. Leona Zastrow, Santa Fe, NM; Ellen (Charles) Siebold, Denmark, WI; Nancy (John) Riley, Orem, UT and Mary (Wayne) Worachek, Algoma; seven brothers. Eugene Zastrow, Patrick (Diane) Zastrow, Harry Jr.(Roxanne) Zastrow, Tim (Cheryl) Zastrow, all of Algoma; Michael (Susan) Zastrow, Green Bay; Luke(Natalie) Zastrow, Menominee, MI and Mark (Pamela) Zastrow, Wadworth IL; sister-in-laws Marie (Dwight) Hurley, Virginia (Edward) Baum, Charmaine (Steven) Sullivan, Sue Ann (Richard) Kinstetter Jr. and brother-in-law Alois (Lois) Seidl and many nieces, nephews, cousins. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, brother James (Edna) Zastrow, an infant brother Charles and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alois (Betty Jonet) Seidl.Friends may call the Schinderle Funeral Home, Algoma, from 4 to 8 pm Sunday December 22, 2013 and after 10 am Monday at St Mary Church, Algoma, until the Mass of Christian Burial 11:00am with Rev. William Swichtenberg officiating. Prayer service 7 pm Sunday at the funeral home with Pastoral Minister Kathy Zeman. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Algoma.
