Barbara O'Neal Arnold, 56, of Blackshear died early Thursday morning at her residence after an extended illness. She was born in Quitman, Georgia to the late Johnny Lee O'Neal, Sr. and Dorothy Samantha Jump. Mrs. Arnold has made her home in Blackshear and Waycross since the early 1990's. She worked for Satilla Regional Medical Center as a registered nurse. Ms. Arnold loved gardening, sewing, shopping, visiting the beach and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Jakey Thompson, Sr., of Blackshear, three daughters, Cristina Relyea and her husband Michael of Waycross, Chastity O'Neal of Waycross, Phoenix Dean and her husband John of Blackshear, six grandchildren, Myra Relyea, Charles Relyea, Laurel O'Neal, Jalen Cox, Bailey Crapps, Sydney Lynch, her mother, Louise O'Neal of Pavo, Georgia, a step-daughter, Nikki Wilson and her husband Jason of Blackshear, two step-grandchildren, Amber Wilson, Andrew Wilson, eight brother and sisters, Joey Croft, Mona Tillman, Glenda Hodge, Tina Hodge, Annett Merritt, Lisa Alderman, Johnny O'Neal, Jr., Patricia Griffin and numerous other relatives.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday in the Maxwell-Miller Funeral Home Chapel in Quitman, Georgia. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
