Vera Afton Leavitt Hatch
1918 ~ 2005
Our beautiful, loving mother, Afton Leavitt Hatch, 87, passed away with grace and dignity surrounded by her family, on October 27, 2005. She was born on February 18, 1918, in Gunlock, Utah to Thomas Josiah and Flora Christine Harder Leavitt. She married C. Victor Hatch on November 3, 1939, in Salt Lake City, later solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Our mother engaged fully in life and we never knew her to procrastinate. She was a good friend, patient in her afflictions, and a devout LDS church member. Mother taught us to respect church leaders and she modeled obedience. This valiant woman dedicated her life to her family. Those who were fortunate enough to know and serve her count her as a valued treasure. How lucky we are to love someone who is so hard to say goodbye to. She is survived by daughters, Deyanne (Robert) Sweeten, Charlene (Merrill) Wells, Lynette (David) Edwards, Jerilynn (Mark) Richardson, Debra (David) Peterson; 18 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her adoring husband, and infant daughter, Vickie Christine Hatch. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at the Crescent Ridge 7th Ward, 1245 E. 11000 So. Family and friends may visit from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church and Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Holladay Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 So. Highland Drive. Interment will follow services at the Salt Lake City Cemetery, 4th Avenue and "N" Street. Online condolences at www.celebratinglife-ut.com.
