Life's Work/Service/Interests: Dwane married his sweetheart, LuDean Sorensen, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple soon after graduating from high school. He continued his education at Brigham Young University and began a teaching career in Ely, Nevada. After a few years in Ely, he returned to Payson where he retired from the middle school after teaching for 37 years and assisting numerous students in Math and English. Dwane was well-known for his horsemanship. He trained winning halter and performance horses in almost every discipline from western pleasure to roping. He showed several horses that received their American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) Registers of Merit and Point Championships. He also served as an AQHA judge and was inducted into the Utah Quarter Horse Hall of Fame in 1989. He was very involved with various other horse associations throughout the state and served in the presidency, as a board member or head judge for several of them; including the Central Utah Cutting Horse Association, Panorama Horse Show Auction, 4-H, and the Utah State Western Riding Clubs Association. Dwane was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in numerous callings throughout his life, including that of Bishop. He also served with his wife, in his later years, in the Texas McAllen Mission. Leo "Dwane" Haskell, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away into the arms of his Heavenly Father on December 16, 2013, from his beloved farm in Payson, Utah. Dwane was 76.
Survived By: His loving wife, LuDean; his children: Diane (Ralf)Schmirald, Charlene (Ken) Condie, Sterling (Leslie) Haskell, David (Dorothy) Haskell and Mark (Becky) Haskell; 22 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Preceded In Death By: His parents; brother, Francis Earl Haskell; sister, Leona Haskell Close; and grandson, Brennan David Haskell.
