From the (Grand Prairie, TX) Daily News-Texan, Friday, December 23, 1960, p. 1:

Despondent over financial difficulties, Pete Peeples, widely known area restaurateur, was found dead of a gunshot wound Thursday night in the bedroom of his home, 1523 Larkspur, Arlington.

Although no inquest verdict had been returned Friday morning by Peace Justice O. L. Watson, evidence pointed to suicide.

Peeples, about 55, was owner and operator of Pete Peeples Restaurant, 120 Fairview. he had been in the tavern and restaurant business in this area for some 15 years.

The shooting occurred, about 8:20 p.m., shortly after Peeples had returned home from serving a Christmas party at the Airco supply Co. in Grand Prairie.

Preston T. Wolf, who accompanied Peeples home from the party, told police he was hanging up coats in the den of the home and that Peeples went into the front bedroom.

"It was only a minute or two until I heard the shot," Wolf said. He then found Peeple's body on the floor at the foot of the bed and called police.

Peeples had been shot in the head, just over the right ear, with a .38 caliber snub-nosed revolver which was found next to the body. The bullet, which passed through the head, bounced off of the ceiling and wall of the room, was found at the base of a floor lamp only a couple of feet away from the body.

Wolf, in his statement to police, indicated Peeples had been despondent the past several days over financial difficulties. Other acquaintances verified this. Wolf told police Peeples was due to make a payment of $800 to the federal government Friday on his income tax and did not have the money. He also indictaed that Peeples was behind in other debts, and had been turned down on a loan request only a few hours before his death.

Peeples is survived by five brothers, Howard Peeples of Fort Worth, Allen and Alton Peeples of Houston, R. V. Peeples of California, and E. J. Peeples of Illinois, and two sisters, Mrs. Florence Tull of Fort Worth and Mrs. Mel Beck of Marlin.

Funeral arrangements, incomplete at press time will be announced by Moore Funeral Home.
