Emit R. DAGLEY was born in Daviess County, Indiana, May 30, 1847, and departed this life Friday night, August 27, 1920, at his home in Cincinnati, aged seventy-three years, two months and twenty-seven days.
Mr. DAGLEY had resided in Center Township since three years of age, and during his long life here made a host of friends who will greatly mourn his departure.
At the early age of seventeen during the Civil War he answered his country’s call and served his time faithfully for one year and seven months.
On November 29, 1867 he was united in marriage to Mary C. EMERY, Scotland. To this union were born seven children. One preceded him in infancy and one in middle age of life, namely: Q. E. DAGLEY, of Alhambra, California, who died November 10, 1917. Those remaining to mourn their sad loss are Mrs. Sherman KIRKMAN, of Dugger; Mrs. Frank SARGENT, of Owensburg; Mrs. John S. BURCH, of Pickering, Missouri; H. L. DAGLEY, of Cincinnati; Algie E. DAGLEY, of Cincinnati; Major H. C. DAGLEY, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Ed COX, of Cincinnati, and the widowed mother.
There are nineteen grandchildren, elven great grandchildren; also one brother E. C. DAGLEY, of Joplin, Missouri, one half-brother, D. C. RADER, of Elnora, and one half-sister, Mrs. Ella FAULK, of Lyons, and a host of other relatives who will be deeply grieved.
In closing the most comforting thing of all is to say that more than twenty years ago Mr. DAGLEY was converted on a beautiful New Year’s morning, and has showed by his daily life that the change of heart was sincere, and now we feel sure that he has gone home to God to await his eternal reward. During his last few hours he remarked that God would fix it all, and we know that he felt assured of the divine promise.
He was a member of the Masonic order at Hobbieville, which order he held in very high esteem, and requested many times in life that the members should have charge of his body when the end came—which they did.
The funeral services were held in Walnut Grove Church, Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock, conducted by Elder Oscar E. KELLER, of Bloomfield, after which the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery near by.
