Death record indicates birth in Philadelphia but this is inconsistent with 1860 Census (FL) and the fact that John Irwin and family were stationed at the Naval Yard in Escambia, Florida in 1860.

The only Irwin I found in Carlisle ca. 1770's was William Irvine. Checking the "famous people" buried here one finds William Irvine! John Irwin did not knowingly leave his daughter with family for Brig General William Irvine's remains were only brought here in 1952.
