Merlyn Agnes Witt, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, quietly passed away in her sleep on December 5, 2013 at the age of 92. Born on October 24, 1921 in Detroit, Michigan to Roy and Hazel Cady, Merlyn was raised in Hillsdale, Michigan and attended a one-room schoolhouse. When in high school, she and her family moved to Detroit where she later met her husband, Ed, at a church function. They married in 1942. During WWII, Merlyn proudly served as a SPAR in the U.S. Coast Guard, stationed in Washington, D.C. Her highest-ranking achievement, however, was as a loving and totally devoted mother to three girls. Prior to enjoying her role as dedicated mother, Merlyn joined the workforce on Ford Motor Company's assembly line, then moved on to switchboard operator with both Michigan Bell and the Coast Guard. Merlyn and Ed moved to San Antonio in 1970 where they became longtime members of Alamo Heights United Methodist Church and the Kum-Doublers Sunday School class. Merlyn served as the Sunday School attendance clerk for many years, as well as serving as a dependable, hard-working volunteer in many organizations with her husband, which included the 63rd Infantry Division, the 36th Infantry Division, and the 141st Infantry Regiment. Her final years were spent enjoying her life and friends at Amber Oaks Assisted Living Community, where she was a big bingo fan, and her final months were spent in the care of Heartland of San Antonio and Heartland Hospice.

Merlyn is survived by daughters, Sandra Witt of Tasmania, Australia and Deborah (Witt) Warner and, son-in-law, Thomas Warner of San Antonio. She is also survived by grandchildren, Bryan, Andrew, and David Tarnacki, Daniel and Jennifer Warner; great-grandchildren, Kayla and Alexandra Tarnacki; brother-in-law, William Lowery; sister-in-law, Yvonne Cady, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Edward Witt; daughter, Diana (Witt) Tarnacki; son-in-law, Gary Tarnacki; parents, Roy and Hazel (Karicofe) Cady; brothers, Howard Cady, Donald Cady, and Richard Cady; brother-in-law, Charles Harris; sisters-in-law, Kay Cady, Muriel Harris, and Beverly Lowery.

Visitation will be Friday, December 20, 2013 from 10:00am to 12:00noon at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home on Austin Hwy. Interment to follow at 1:15pm at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with Rev. Donna Strieb officiating.
