Serena 'Toots' Vian

SPARTA, Wis. - Serena "Toots" Vian, 99, of Sparta died Thursday, July 8, 2004, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Nursing Home, Sparta. She was born Jan. 18, 1905, in Burns, Wis., to Engburt and Annie (Hanson) Johnson. She grew up in the Burns area on the family farm.

She married Charles Vian on Aug. 20, 1925. She worked at Fort McCoy as a seamstress. Later they farmed in Big Creek. She then worked at St. Mary's Hospital in Sparta as a cook before retiring. Charles passed away May 7, 1960. Serena enjoyed crocheting.

She is survived by 16 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sons, August, Arthur and Kenneth; a daughter, Rose Erickson; a great-grandson, Darin; three brothers, Sever, Henry and Melvin; and seven sisters, Sena, Jennie, Inga, Alma, Emma, Martha and Eunice.

Funeral services will be Sunday at noon at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sparta. Burial will be in Burns Cemetery, rural Bangor, Wis.

Friends may call at Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta, today from 5 to 8 p.m. and at the church Sunday from 11 a.m. until time of services.

Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
