Five-Year-Old Child Is Fatally Burned
Funeral services for Betty Leona Sanders, 5-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Sanders of West Point Highway, were held Tuesday, 25 Oct 1949 at 4:00 p.m. from the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Services were conducted by Rev C.C. Sanders, pastor of the LaFayette First Baptist Church. Interment was in the Sanders Cemetery with Johnson and Sanders in charge of arrangements.
The child died from burns suffered while playing inside an automobile. According to reports, she found some matches in the back seat and evidently ignited one, catching her clothing on fire. She died at 8:00 p.m. Monday, living only a short while after being burned.
Surviving are the parents; three sisters, Billie, Leola and Frances Sanders; one brother, Eugene Sanders, all of West Point-LaFayette Highway.
Pallbearers were uncles of the deceased.
