Daniel Coppersmith, a well known and highly respected resident of this city, died suddenly of heart disease at his home, 139 North street, at 4:30 pm on Tuesday. He had suffered more or less trouble with his heart for several years, but had been able to keep at his work in the plant of the Rome Box and Lumber Company up to a week ago, when he was obliged to give up, and his death came suddenly while conversing with members of his family.

Mr. Coppersmith was born in Rome 63 years ago last December and this city had always been his home. On May 21, 1861 he enlisted for two years in Company G 14th Regiment, New York Volunteer Infantry, the first regiment raised in Oneida county. At the close of that term of service he re-enlisted in Company B 146th Regiment, New York Volunteers. On January 9, 1863, he was promoted from private to corporal. On Octber 27, 1863, he was advanced to sergeant and on June 13, 1866 was promoted to first sergeant. He was mustered out of the service July 16, 1865, having served till the close of the war. Soon after the war he married Miss Margaret Sullivan, who died 26 years ago. Mr. Coppersmith was a member of Skillin Post No. 47, GAR. Surviving are three children, Mrs. Jay Northrup, Mrs. Philip Staple and Mrs. Charles Henry of Rome, four sisters, Mrs.Louis Ecuyer of Rome, Mrs. Jacob Pfaff of Scranton, Pa, Mrs. Sophia Hoskine of Buffalo, and Mrs. John Wise of Oswego, and one brother, Charles Coppersmith of Peoria, Ill.
