Olivia Byrd Dorn-Kennedy, 60, of Greenwood, died December 12, 2013, at Anderson Medical Center. She was beloved wife of 33 years of James Kennedy; loving mother of son Patrick Johnson Dorn Kennedy of London, England. She was born on January 17, 1953, in Washington, D.C.; sister of Brianna Lawrence and husband Bruce of Greenwood; Debbie Dorn of Anderson; Jennings Dorn and wife Anne of Greenville; and Johnson Dorn and wife Sharon of Saluda. She was the daughter of Mildred and Rep. Bryan Dorn.
Olivia was an award-winning television and print journalist. She began her career at SCETV (SC Educational Television). She then served as anchor and legislative reporter for WLTX in Columbia. Later, her work as an investigative consumer reporter at WGHP in High Point (NC) received the Associated Press Award for Enterprising Reporting. She was also a writer for Belmont Banner and Southern Jewelry News.
Olivia graduated from Greenwood High School and received both her bachelors and masters in mass communication from the University of South Carolina. She was a lover of tennis and proud, eccentric owner to two therapy dogs, Thibodeaux and Garbo. She was recently Baptized on Easter Sunday 2012 at the Chapel in the Woods in Batesburg.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 16, 2013 in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Johnson Dorn officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the graveside.
