Bessie L. Brittain, 80, Blue Springs, Mo., passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at Centerpoint Medical Center. She was born April 27, 1933, at Kansas City, Mo., to Orville and Dorothy (Kirby) Baker. In 1953 she was united in marriage to Warren Brittain who preceded her in death. She did day care in her home, and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Bessie enjoyed working at Evangel Food Pantry, reading, and loved children. In addition to her husband, Warren, she was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers, George Baker and Leonard Baker. She is survived by her son, William Brittain and wife Pamela of Kansas City; daughter, Mary Mesecher and husband Timothy of Blue Springs; sister, Mary Evans of Blue Springs; brother, Charles Baker of Kansas City; grandchildren, Christie Polley and husband Mike, Missie Wolfe and husband Mike, Amanda Lawhon and husband Darren, Matt Mesecher, and Becca Mesecher; and great grandchildren, Brittain, Miranda, Neriah, Reiker Polley, and Mackynzie Lawhon. Funeral services for Bessie will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W. Main St., Blue Springs, (816) 229-3276, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Burial will be Monday, Dec. 16, at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Mo., with Warren. Contributions in memory of Bessie may be made to Harvesters Food Bank.
