Kurt J. Laemmer, 83, of Franklin died peacefully at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, in The Caring Place of Franklin, following a period of declining health. He was born April 4, 1930, in Ulm, Germany, a beloved son of the late Josef and Katharina Schleicher Lammer.

Following his childhood education, he attended a business school after which he furthered his education by attending technical school in Ulm to learn the trade of welding. Upon his immigration to the United States, Mr. Laemmer started and completed a four year tool and die apprenticeship. He became a naturalized citizen in 1960. He had worked for 20 years at Shaw Industries and more than 28 years at C&J Industries in Meadville as a tool and die maker and welder. He had held the position of foreman. He found the metal trades very rewarding and took great pride in his part of a job well done. He was a Pennsylvania State accredited journeyman toolmaker. He was also a former member of the Franklin Eagles Club. During his younger years in Germany, he enjoyed playing the clarinet and saxophone in a band with his friends. He was an avid soccer fan. He believed in being as self-sufficient as possible. He raised chickens, geese and ducks. He also enjoyed beekeeping and gardening.

He was married to Carolyn Hexamer, who preceded him in death.

Surviving are sons, Dr. Kurt J. Laemmer Jr., and Rolf G. Laemmer and wife, Diane, of Franklin; two granddaughters, Kristen and Juliah of Bradford; a sister, Anni Wachter; nephew, Gunther and family of Germany; his sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Conrad Green and their children Mark Green and family of Maine, Martin Green and family of New Hampshire and Melissa Aylward and family of Maine. Deceased are his wife; parents; and brother-in-law, Edward Wachter.

Private immediate family graveside funeral services were held in Franklin Cemetery.
