Dr. Fred C. Sanner

Dr. Fred C. Sanner, 64, passed away unexpectedly Nov. 13 in Tucson, Ariz.
Born in Pottsville, he was the son of the late Harry E. Sanner and is survived by his mother, Gretta M. Sanner, who resides at the Highlands in Wyomissing.
He graduated from Pottsville High School in 1967 and received a bachelor's degree in astronomy from Penn State University in 1970. He went on to receive a Ph. D in astrophysics from the University of Chicago in 1976.
He had been employed by Aerospace Corp. in El Segundo, Calif., and NASA at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., until his recent retirement in September. He had been the senior project manager supervising the design, construction and monitoring of the Suomi NPP Satellite, launched in October 2011.
In addition to his mother, Fred is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Janis Sanner, Chester, Mass.; a sister and brother-in-law, Susan and William Fraser, Fleetwood; three nieces; and seven nephews.
A private service and interment will be held at the discretion of the immediate family. Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, Pottsville, will be in charge of the arrangements.
