Etta Townsend
Etta Townsend, 92, of Greenwood, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Greenwood
She was born Nov. 22, 1913, to the late Willie and Sarah (Bush) Adams in Wolfe County, Ky.
Etta was employed with G.C. Murphy for more than 28 years before retiring as department manager in 1976.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Greenwood and a previous member of River Avenue Baptist Church.
Etta married William Garrett Townsend on Feb. 5, 1938, in Indianapolis.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a great-grandson, Jimmy Brown: a sister, Hazel Wilkee; and Three brother,
Malcolm, Clay, and Andrew Adams.
Etta is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Dick "Ed") McKeel; her son, Harold (Judi) Townsend; four grandchildren, Timothy (Kathy) McKeel, Pam (James) Brown, Teresa (Mike) Buck and Tamara (Ron) Hoffmann; a sister, Juanita Profitt; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Etta was loving and devoted to her Lord and her family. She was known for her kindness, generosity and a determination that brought joy to those around her. She lived a very rich and fill life.
The Revs. Tom Bridges and Mason Groves will conduct a celebration of her life at 10 a.m. Saturday at G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home, 1605 S. State Road 135. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
