The Post Ellicottville, NY April 12, 1911

Mrs. Lucy Lawton Wheeler, widow of the late David A. Wheeler, died Sunday at half past five o'clock at the home of her son David in Allegany April 2nd, where she made her home for the last years of her life. She was the last of a family of thirteen children.

She was married in Williamson, Wayne County, NY in 1836 to David A. Wheeler. They moved to Great Valley and from there to Humphrey where they cleared a piece of land and built a home. From there they moved to Allegany in 1866.

She was the mother of 11 children, six of whom survive; Mrs. Mary Hill, David A., Charles F. and William H. of Allegany; Mrs. Sarah Griswold of Butler, Pa. and Mrs. Fred Penson of Alliance, Ohio. Those children who died were Alonzo, Jasper, Silas, Emeline, Eveline, and one who died in infancy before being named. She leaves 25 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Her husband died about 25 years ago.

Funeral services were held at her late home conducted by Rev. J.A. Nelson of the M.E. church Thursday at two o'clock and was largely attended. The remains were laid at rest beside those of her husband. 93y
