The death of Anders O. Flaaten had been ailing a long time, especially the last two weeks before his death. He went through a great deal of suffering. Mr. Flaaten spoke very little of his disease. Undoubtedly he had known possibly for several years that he was becoming a victim of cancer, but not until two weeks before his death was it known that the end was so near. He seemed very happy and satisfied in spite of it all, and seemed glad to think he should soon be released from his suffering and disease to go home to God.

Andrew Flaaten was born to Ole Knutson Flaaten and Gunhild Flaaten in Hallingdal, Norway, November 11, 1856. He came to this country when he was 21 years of age.

In 1884 he was married and together with his wife (Serine Louise Larson Jordal Olson), they settled on the farm where he made his home until his death.

Mr. and Mrs. Flaaten had in all ten children (three boys and seven girls). Those living are:

1. Julia, Mrs. Carl C Arneson (1887-1962) near Blair, Wisconsin;
1st married to Albert J Halverson, he died 1917 (he was a widow previously married Karen Hanson Skyrud w/children)
2. Lena (Oluf) Jacobson (1891-1959)
3. Odell Flaaten (1894-1972)
4. Sena, Mrs. Olaf Jacobson (1896-1981) near Disco, Wisconsin; later Viroqua
5. Edward A Flaaten (1899-1971)
6. Alida L (Roy O) Hedlund of (1902-1976) Roseau, Minn
7. Ludwig Flaaten (1905-1996) of Jackson, CA
8. Bertha Flaaten (Abt 1908) died before 1962

Deceased:
9. Ottella Sofie Flaaten (1885-1910)
10. Selma Louise Roseth (1890-1920)

Besides these he leaves to mourn his death, Mrs. Flaaten, his wife; two brothers,
1. Paul O Flaaten (1860-1942) of Alberta, Canada and
2. Helge O Flaaten of Silverton, Oregon and
two sisters
3. Miss Astri Flaaten (1853-1941) of Blair and
one sister in Norway.

Anders Flaaten was buried in Faith North Beaver Creek (Ettrick township) at the U.N. Lutheran cemetery on March 12th. His wife died August 7, 1923.
